The Expanse...

I don't believe anyone has started watching this yet, but I highly recommend SyFy's The Expanse if you haven't. It's based on a series of books, the first one being "Leviathan Wakes."  It's an interesting book and the series follows it really well.  It reminds me a lot of Blade Runner, Mass Effect, and the reboot of Battlestar Galactica.  It's pretty fantastic - it's more story driven then character driven, but the cast is really good - featuring Thomas Jane as my favorite character from the first book.  It's only 10 episodes and the season ended earlier this year.  I can't recommend it enough.

  • Heh...they could make a porn version and call it "The Expants"...or that could be a movie about the time we went to Cedar Point and/or C-Dog's Bachelor party. :)
  • A lot of buzz about this show recently. Mostly because it appears to be on track to suffer Farscape's fate (excellent show, critically acclaimed, solid fan boy following, not enough ratings) but its been reviewed favorably.

I know you've been pitching this show and book to me, so I just wondered if you think it's worth it to watch the show first or read the books?
  • Hard to say.  I've only read the first book.  I LOVE the show.  At times I found it difficult to read the book.  Not sure why.  I have the 2nd book on my Kindle, but haven't gotten into it.  I think you could get away with just watching the show, in all fairness.  Some feel that reading the book first helps you understand the show better, I'm not sure that I agree.  The first book in the series is the told in the first season and a half of the show, which is cool.
  • I have the first book at the top of my wish list on Audible when my next credits hit my account on May 4. I have a couple other books I'm chewing through first (second book in the "Bobiverse" series just dropped today, and the fourth "Wizard 2.0" book is audio-only premiere on May 9) but I'm excited to start this one. Reviews are pretty solid on Audible, and I'm more likely to read the book at this point than I am to watch the show.
